MLB news: Sept. 26 -- Orioles clinch third consecutive AL East title
With a 7-0 victory over the New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles clinched their third consecutive American League East Division championship.
The Orioles (96-61) lead the Boston Red Sox by 5.5 games in the division race with five games left in the regular season.
The victory also assured Baltimore home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs as the Red Sox own the league's second-best record.
Only the National League's Atlanta Braves boast a better mark than the Orioles.
The Braves sit atop the National League East Division at 98-59 and have already clinched home-field advantage for the entire postseason.
The playoff berth is Baltimore's third in a row and fifth in the last season seasons.
The Orioles, however, have not reached the World Series since 1983 when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
