Rockies Come Home As June Winds Down
Hello Rockies fans! Your favorite analyst, Izzy Garcia here to break down the rollercoaster of a homestand we just wrapped up against the Astros, Giants, and Padres. This second season for the Rockies continues to be a wild ride!
Houston Astros Series (1-2)
Game 1: Astros 3 Rockies 2
We dropped the opener in a tight one. It was a tough bullpen outing in the 8th that ultimately cost us the game, with Luis Gonzalez hitting a 2-run home run for Houston. Melido Perez pitched a solid five innings, striking out seven and giving up only one earned run.
Game 2 Rockies 5 Astros 4 (11 Innings)
What a game! We rallied in the 7th to tie it up and then Geronimo Berroa delivered a clutch walk-off solo home run in the 11th to give us the win. Jerry Browne was a standout with three hits and three RBI. This was a much needed morale boost and showed our grit.
Game 3: Astros 6 Rockies 5
Unfortunately, we couldn't clinch the series, losing a close one 6-5. Luis Gonzalez was a thorn in our side again, with a go-ahead single in the 8th. We put up a good fight, but a few key errors proved costly.
San Francisco Giants Series (2-1)
Game 1: Rockies 4 Giants 2
Gil Heredia was absolutely amazing on the mound, going eight strong inning and giving up only one run. Lance Johnson came through with a big 2-run single to break a scoreless tie in the fourth, and Heredia even helped his own cause with a solo home run!
Game 2: Rockies 8 Giants 3
Another strong win, 8-3! Jerry Browne had a fantastic day at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Melido Perez picked up his fifth win of the season with a solid outing. We showed a lot of offensive power in this one.
Game 3: Giants 4 Rockies 3 (11 Innings)
A tough extra-inning loss to close out the series. Mike Benjamin hit a solo home run in the 11th to give the Giants the win. We battled back in the 8th to tie it, but couldn't hold on.
San Diego Padres Series (3-1)
Game 1: Rockies 19 Padres 5
What an offensive explosion! We absolutely crushed the Padres in a 19-5 blowout. Geronimo Berroa led the charge with four runs scored and four RBI, tying the Rockies' single game runs record! Pat Listach's 2-run double in the 4th was a key hit in our massive 8-run inning. Darryl Kile got the win.
Game 2 (DH GM 1) Rockies 3 Padres 2
In the first game of a double-header, the Rockies pulled out a 3-2 extra-inning victory against the Padres! Butch Henry was the player of the game pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run. We won it in the 10th after the Padres tied it in the ninth, showing some serious late-game resilience!
Game 3 (DH GM 2) Padres 5 Rockies 2
The Padres bounced back in a second game of the doubleheader with a 5-2 win. Their pitcher, Andy Benes, had a great outing, holding our offense to only two runs. While we had some opportunities with runners on base, we couldn't get the timely hits.
Game 4 Rockies 5 Padres 3
We closed out the homestand with a 5-3 victory over the Padres. Melido Perez was excellent, and Geronimo Berroa delivered another crucial hit, a 2-run double in the 7th to give us the lead and secure the series win.
Homestand Wrap-Up
Overall, it was a pretty good homestand for the Rockies! We went 6-5 across the three series, showcasing our offensive potential and some solid pitching performances. This stretch was a good step in the right direction, showing resilience and a developing ability to win at home.
