If you have the "Potential Influences MiL Performance" setting checked, it is default, then relative ratings don't really mean much at all because potential ratings are blended with current ratings to make a "performance rating". You can have two players both rated 35/80 relative to rookie, but the one with better potential is going to perform better. Perhaps his "performance rating" is average.

I do wish they would rethink how they represent this because it's confusing.

If you turn off the setting, then yeah low current ability players will struggle. sometimes they will overcome, sometimes they won't. Sink or swim, just like in real life.
Jpeters, I am well aware of the thread you made, I applaud you for your research and revealing this. One question that I am not sure if you have the answer for, do you think players that are 20/80 and having their stats be "boosted" by their potential ratings are still considered "overmatched" for player development purposes due to their low current ability ratings?
