Cards news: July 16 -- 2B Baro, C Crooks and RHP Mathews are first-time All-Stars
The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that second baseman Boston Baro, catcher Jimmy Crooks and starting pitcher Quinn Mathews have been named to the National League roster for the upcoming All-Star game.
It is the first All-Star game for both, who also are full-time starters for the first time this season.
Baro, 23, will be the starting second baseman for the NL winning the fan vote.
In 88 games/86 starts, Baro has hit .286 with 10 home runs 40 RBIs and 47 runs scored.
The 26-year-old Crooks has played in 67 games/66 starts during which he has hit .278 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Mathews has gone 8-3 in 19 starts with a 3.00 ERA.
The 27-year-old has worked 111.0 innings, striking out 109 and posting a 1.23 WHIP.
