Game 4: Quincy 3, Easy Town 1
Gunners Sweep Assaultrons
The Quincy Gunners earned their 1st Sole Survivor Series title and now have all winter to spend basking in the glory, while the beaten Easy Town Assaultrons will have plenty of time to wonder what went wrong.
Quincy became the Commonwealth Baseball Organization champion for 2316 with a 3-1 triumph to capture the series 4-0.
Starter Make Money was the Game MVP, allowing just two hits and one earned run with three walks and three strikeouts in 7.0 innings. He finished 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA in two starts, outdueling the Trons' Tarzan Rogers each time.
"Both clubs are talented. We just made fewer mistakes than they did," winning manager Scrappy Barios said to the press corps at the postgame press conference. "We made the crucial plays and got the timely hits."
Easy Town skipper Malik Christmasstory agreed with that assessment, saying his club turned out to be "a little weak on fundamentals" at crucial times.
"I have a sneaking suspicion we will be working on fundamentals a lot next spring," he said.
In the Assaultrons' two appearances in the Sole Survivor Series, they are now a combined 0-8.
Despite Money's efforts in two starts, 1B Bingy Xiu was named the Series MVP. Xiu was 7 of 14 (.500) with a double, a home run, a walk, four runs, and two RBI in four starts as cleanup hitter.
On the way to the Sole Survivor Series championship, the Gunners ended up in second place in the South Charles Association Minutemen League and compiled a 68-62 record during the regular season. They were the 6th seed in the SCA.
