The Globetrotters happened because the NBA predecessors, the NBL and the BAA, had a color line. Abe Saperstein couldn't hire black players for the Warriors, so he started a barnstorming team. (Philadelphia had a history of barnstorming clubs, going back to the Sphas, who were sponsored by the South Philadelphia Hebrew Association.)
I'm sure this is fun for the kiddies, but let's not make it more than it is, much less try to "save" real baseball by injecting elements of this, as I'm sure one of Manly Manfred's Assistant Turds is urging right now.
