The July 1 Super Post

CBO Top Performances

Hitters - With a game score of 101, Roxbury's Honker Trinkl set the top performance mark in June on June 23 in the Rad Sox's 11-4 victory over University Point. Trinkl was 4 for 5 with two home runs, three runs, and six RBI. Keen Sugiura's 105 points in April still remains the season high.

Pitchers - He could not quite beat Kevin Gauzeman's season high 93 points, but Spectacle Island's Aqua Purified tied that score in June. On June 27, Purified threw a complete-game shutout with two hits allowed and 10 strikeouts in the Reapers' 1-0 victory over Goodneighbor.

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Jacob Tarberry, the Malden third baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .404 batting average with 40 hits, 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 18 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the North Charles Association Batter of the Month honors for June.

This season, Tarberry has hit at a .348 clip with 55 RBIs, 16 home runs and 54 runs scored.

SCA Hitter - Phantom Vargas battered South Charles Association pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Vargas told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Vargas hit .346 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

For the year, Vargas has hit at a .330 clip with 52 RBIs, 14 home runs and 47 runs scored.

NCA Pitcher - It was a monstrous June for the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award winner, Scooter Yaghmour of the Cambridge Coursers. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Yaghmour recorded 6 wins and 1 loss in 7 starts. Throwing a total of 56 innings, he yielded 49 hits, mowed down 36 on strikes, gave up 11 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.93 in a stellar month on the mound.

Yaghmour has made 18 starts this season, posting 12 wins and 2 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .219 against him and he has 103 strikeouts in 135 innings with a 2.00 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - Scruffy Taguchi left little doubt in the minds of South Charles Association officials that he should be named June's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.

"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Taguchi. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."

The 36-year-old tossed 47.1 innings of quality baseball -- going 6-1 with a 2.47 ERA and 34 strikeouts.

Checking out his stats for the season, Taguchi has registered 12 wins and 4 losses in 19 starts, posted a 2.66 ERA, and struck out 90 batters in 128.1 innings.

NCA Rookie - Bullets Barnes was crowned June's Rookie of the Month in the North Charles Association today.

In 6 starts the Cambridge starter threw 39.2 innings, fanning 32, while walking 12. The rookie fashioned 4 wins and 1 loss last month with a 2.50 ERA and opposing teams batted .232 against him.

This year, Barnes has compiled a 8-6 mark with a 2.75 ERA in 18 starts.

SCA Rookie - Southie's Jimmie Dimmick collected 25 hits to snare the South Charles Association Rookie of the Month for June.

He batted .338 with 6 home runs, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

This year, Dimmick is hitting at a .276 pace with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has played in 62 games and scored 32 times.

NEBL Analysis

All divisions in the NEBL are decently tight, with one division in a three-way tie. In the PL Maine Division, Clifton, Lynn, and Danvers are all tied at 43-29. Abernathy leads the PL Vershire Division by a game, as does Sandwich in the YL Mass Division. Providence has the largest division lead of three games in the YL Connri Division.

NEBL All-Star Game

The Patriot League All-Stars reigned supreme tonight at Abernathy Farm Field, with a 3-2 triumph over the Yankee League All-Stars.

Patriot League third baseman Nathan Done led the way for the winning club, putting up a 1-for-3 mark to earn game MVP honors.

"We had some fun out there," he said. "We've got a great league and a great team and I'm not surprised we won."

Done has a lifetime .316 average and .378 on-base percentage in his career with 126 hits, 20 doubles, no triples, 25 home runs, 78 RBIs and 72 runs scored.

It's that time of the season again, when the best of the best battle it out for New England Baseball League bragging rights. Yes, it's time for the annual All-Star game! The Patriot League All-Stars will take on the Yankee League All-Stars in a star-studded showdown.

NEBL Players of the Month

PL Hitter - Medford Radguards fans believe they've got a talented young star in Mogens Rideout.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .349 with 3 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the Patriot League Batter of the Month.

So far this year, Rideout is batting .327 with 9 home runs and 45 RBIs.

YL Hitter - Bob O'Dwyer made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Yankee League this past month.

The Natick Big Leaguers second baseman shined through the month of June and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old hit .356 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

This year, O'Dwyer is batting .333 with 9 home runs. He has scored 27 runs and driven in 37.

PL Pitcher - The Patriot League scribes have selected June's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Anudrutta Niten of Danvers. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 4-0 record.

The Sonics star performer made 6 starts with a 2.40 ERA and surrendered 32 hits in 45 innings. He struck out 26 and walked 21.

This season, Niten has compiled a 10-2 record with a 3.08 ERA in 14 starts.

YL Pitcher - Storm Steele really put his best foot forward in June with 5 wins and 2 losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Yankee League. When he got the start for the Plymouth Pilgrims, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 54 innings of work, Steele limited opposing batters to 32 base hits and a .173 batting average. He notched 45 strikeouts, issued 14 walks and had a 2.50 ERA.

This season, Steele has a 7-8 record with a 2.95 ERA in 17 starts.

MML Analysis

Three of the four divisions in the MML are tight, while one has a bit of distance. In the LL Boggs Division, Covenant possesses a six-game lead over Marblehead, giving the Refractors the largest lead. In the LL Murtagh Division, Sanctuary Hills has a two-game lead over Revere Beach. In the SL Williams Division, Castle has a one-game lead over Brockton. Finally, in the SL Yastrzemski Division, Bridgeporrt has a half-game lead over Mayoral Shelter.

MML All-Star Game

The Stars League All-Stars have bragging rights for the year after beating the Legends League All-Stars by a score of 3-1 at Watertown Stadium.

Stars League star Do Drew McDermott played a key role in the win, going 3 for 4 to lead his team.

McDermott has played in 185 games with a .260 career batting average and 131 hits. He has also scored 65 runs and driven in 67 runs with 21 home runs.

The votes are tallied and the players have been chosen -- all that's left is to "Play Ball"! MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 Sascha Foss has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Belmont Sneakers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in June, which have garnered him the nod as the Legends League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .330 average with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

For the season, Foss is hitting at a .311 clip with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and has scored 20 runs. He has 41 hits, 12 walks and a .376 on-base percentage.

SL Hitter - At only 21 years of age, Robert Sand could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Hartford Melonheads, as June was one to remember for the shortstop and he has captured the Stars League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .360 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Sand is hitting .293 this year with 9 home runs and 37 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .356, 22 walks and scored 34 times.

LL Pitcher - In June Marblehead starter, Swami Montijo really put the strong arm on the other Legends League teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 4 wins and no losses.

In 5 starts and 39.1 innings of work, Montijo limited opposing batters to 28 base hits and a .206 batting average. He fanned 29, issued 15 walks and had a 1.60 ERA.

This season, Montijo has gone 7-5 with an ERA of 4.72, posting 71 strikeouts in 95.1 innings.

SL Pitcher - In June, the top pitcher in the Stars League was a reliever, thanks to some sensational numbers Houdini Cousy put up coming out of the bullpen.

The Castle relief specialist made 14 relief appearances, picking up 9 saves and 8 strikeouts in 14.1 innings, and posted a 2-1 mark and a 0.63 ERA.

This season, Cousy has 14 saves. In 20 relief appearances he has tossed 21 innings, struck out 11 and issued 7 walks with a 3-1 record. The Castle reliever has recorded a 1.71 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .200 when he is in the game.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - Twin Molinere put together a good June to earn the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Union Hope officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Lifegivers third baseman posted a .406 batting average with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

So far this season, Molinere is batting .333 with 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 114 at-bats, 15 walks and a .412 OBP. Molinere has played in 36 games.

MA Hitter - Ruby Randle has a lot going for him. The Charles View right fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Massachusetts Association has just picked him as its top hitter for June.

In 21 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .322 with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Randle is swinging at a .319 pace on the year with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has played in 22 games.

CA Pitcher - Xeno Lakelady will be bringing June's Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Outpost Zimonja. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Lakelady started 4 games, going 4-0 with 18 strikeouts in 32.2 innings as he compiled his 1.65 ERA.

In 8 starts this season, Lakelady has notched a 5-1 record and a 3.38 ERA.

MA Pitcher - Vo Kiln of the Abington Patriots outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 5-0 won-lost mark and 2.01 ERA in 6 starts to get the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month honors.

Kiln had a very impressive June, finishing with 28 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .255 average.

This season, Kiln has worked 97 innings with 57 strikeouts en route to a 6-2 record and a 2.78 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

In the GBRL, three divisions are relatively tight, while one division looks mostly set. In the SL Southeast Division, Cumberland holds a league-high six-game lead over Duxbury, as well as a Magic # of 13. In the NL Northeast Division, both Portland and Brunswick are tied at 47-23. In the NL Northwest Division, Brattleboro leads Beantown by three games. In the SL Southwest Division, New Britain leads by a game over Roadside Pines.

GBRL All-Star Game

Although his team came out on the losing end, nobody could deny Automatic Lawson's performance in this year's all-star game.

The North League All-Stars fell to the South League All-Stars by a score of 5-1, but Lawson was still named the game's MVP.

"You would have liked to have won the game of course, but being named the MVP is a great honor," he said from his team's dressing room at Ballpark of Coastal Cottage.

In the contest, Lawson went 2 for 3.

How would you like to manage a team with more star players than you can play? It wouldn't be an easy chore. That's the dilemma facing the two managers at the annual Greater Boston Rookie League All-Star classic -- how to get all the talented All-Stars in the game. But it's a joy for the fans -- to see all their favorite stars on one field at the same time.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Varlam Sayadian may be much younger than other hitters in the North League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in June to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 18-year-old Brunswick left fielder hit .365 with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Currently Sayadian has 18 home runs and a .306 batting average.

SL Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Jam Armchase certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the SL Batter of the Month award for June.

The 19-year-old right fielder for the New Britain Oceanics hit .366 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

During the current season Armchase is batting at a .322 clip with 19 home runs and 46 RBIs. He has played in 55 games and scored 47 times.

NL Pitcher - The June Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the North League award went to Satellite Array hurler, Alejandro Porridge.

During the month, Porridge was impressive with a 1.16 ERA and 3 wins and 1 loss. In 31 innings he struck out 30 and gave up 26 hits and 3 walks.

On his stats sheet for the year Porridge shows a 5-5 record, 15 starts, 88 innings, 79 strikeouts and a 4.50 ERA.

SL Pitcher - Billy Butcher of the Glow Jays bewildered opposing batters in June and was honored as the South League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

The Duxbury starter sparkled last month with a 3-0 record and 3.18 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 34 innings and had 32 strikeouts.

This season, Butcher has registered 5 wins and 5 losses in 17 starts with a 5.04 ERA.
