1929 NEGRO NATIONAL LEAGUE

Teams:

Birmingham Black Barons
Chicago American Giants
Cuban Stars West
Detroit Stars
Kansas City Monarchs
Memphis Red Sox
Nashville Elite Giants
St. Louis Stars

Schedule Characteristics:
SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G112_T8_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="112" start_month="4" start_day="25" start_day_of_week="5"

The season starts on April 25 and ends on September 11. Teams play from 50 to 112 games and play each opponent from 2 to 21 times. Weekday and Saturday games start at 3:00. Double-headers (Sundays, holidays, and some Saturdays and Wednesdays) start at noon and 3:00. The Cuban Stars West are a travelling team: their only home games were played in Chicago. Split-season format with the first half ending July 4.

This schedule is drawn from the Chicago Defender (4/20/29 and 6/29/29). The published schedules list the dates and the number of games in each series but don't identify when the double-headers were scheduled. I assumed, based on NeL practice, that the double-headers would have been scheduled on Sundays if possible. The home-and-away splits are as follows:

Code:
NNL 1929
     A H T
BIR 80 32 112
CHI 24 71 95
CUB 64 3 67
DET 28 77 105
KC 44 43 87
MEM 60 37 97
NSH 27 23 50
STL 30 71 101

1929 NNL + NASHVILLE

Although the published schedules included Nashville, neither Baseball Reference nor Seamheads list Nashville as being a member of the NNL for 1929. Presumably, Nashville was technically an independent team but it had some kind of arrangement with the NNL to play games against its teams. So I went ahead and made an alternate schedule that fills in some of the gaps that Nashville would have occupied if it had been a full-fledged member of the league, and I switched the Cubans' home games to away games. There's a good deal more balance to this schedule, but it's impossible to eliminate all of the disparities in the home-and-away totals and the games played for each club.

Schedule Characteristics:
SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G116_T8_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="116" start_month="4" start_day="25" start_day_of_week="5"

Same basic format as the preceding NNL 1929 schedule. Teams play from 88 to 116 games and play each opponent from 8 to 21 times. Split-season format with first half ending on July 4. Home-and-away splits are as follows:

Code:
NNL 1929+Nashville
     A H T
BIR 77 39 116
CHI 24 82 106
CUB 88 0 88
DET 28 77 105
KC 54 46 100
MEM 64 50 114
NSH 49 54 103
STL 35 71 106

NNL 1929 - NASHVILLE

For the purists out there who want to recreate the seven-team NNL, I've taken the published schedules and deleted the Nashville games.

Schedule Characteristics:
SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G103_T7_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="103" start_month="4" start_day="25" start_day_of_week="5"

Same as the NNL 1929 schedule except that teams play from 58 to 103 games and play each opponent from 4 to 21 times. I'm not going to break down the home-and-away splits - let's make that a surprise.
