The June 1 Super Post

CBO Top Performances

Hitters - Sunshine Tidings' SS Down Home Dahl was the recipient of May's Top Hitting Performance after a game score of 98 in the Chemists' 21-9 victory over Nahant on May 23. Dahl was 3 for 4 with a home run, two walks, four runs, and five RBI. Dahl's score was seven points behind Keen Sugiura's April 13 performance for top performance overall.

Pitchers - Not even a no-hitter in May could top Concord's Kevin Gauzeman's performance on May 26 with a game score of 93, the best of the season. Despite Derek Green's no-hitter on May 27, Gauzeman's May 26 win over Salem, 6-0, was better. Gauzeman threw a complete-game, two-hitter, walking none and striking out 10 in 108 pitches. Gauzeman moved into a full-time starter position this season and is 6-2 with a 2.01 ERA in 12 starts in 2316.

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 22 Bubbler Mayhem has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Cambridge Coursers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the North Charles Association Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .394 average with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

So far this season, Mayhem has hit .375 with 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 26 times.

SCA Hitter - Foo Fieterz, the Oberland left fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .364 batting average with 36 hits, 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 17 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the South Charles Association Batter of the Month honors for May.

Fieterz on the season is batting .364 with 9 home runs. His totals include 44 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has played in 44 games.

NCA Pitcher - Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA, Scooter Yaghmour was selected as May's North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Cambridge starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Scooter Yaghmour definitely contributed to the club. He had 7 starts, throwing 48.2 innings, striking out 36, and holding the opposition to a .207 average.

Up to now Yaghmour has recorded a record of 6-1. In 11 starts he has fanned 67 batters in 79 innings with a 2.05 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - Last month was a very successful month for Make Money of Quincy. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the South Charles Association.

Money shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out May with an impressive 4-1 mark and 1.17 ERA in 7 starts with 44 strikeouts in 53.2 innings.

In 12 starts this season, Money has crafted a 6-2 record with a 1.80 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Zara Zapper is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Nahant hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .284 average with 27 hits, 4 home runs and 20 RBIs.

So far on the season, Zapper is hitting .286 with 6 home runs, 32 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 46 hits and played in 44 games.

SCA Rookie - Dropper Millieu of the Diamond City Swatters performed his craft to perfection to cop May's Rookie of the Month Award in the South Charles Association.

He starred with a 2-1 record while putting up a 2.45 ERA last month. Millieu made 7 starts, tossed 44 innings and struck out 15.

In 12 starts this season, Millieu has gathered 3 wins while suffering 4 losses. He has pitched 74.1 innings, allowed 71 hits, struck out 33 and has a 3.27 ERA.

For the season, Gomez has compiled a 3-3 record with a 1.16 ERA.

YL Pitcher - Torcan Frawley really strutted his stuff in May with 6 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Yankee League. The Sandwich starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 53.1 innings of work, Frawley limited opposing batters to 37 base hits and a .196 batting average. He totaled 49 strikeouts, issued 13 walks and had a 2.02 ERA.

His record this year is 8-2 in 11 starts and Frawley has a 1.81 ERA.

Cully's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.
