
Game 103: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
What a game this was, as both starting pitchers were dialed in and kept the opposition off balance. Much to the delight of the home crowd, the Boston Red Sox (56-47) prevailed over the visiting New York Yankees (55-50) by a 1 to 0 score.
Boston starter Kutter Crawford (8-8) pitched one of his best games of the season, as he tossed 7 innings of scoreless ball in which he scattered 6 hits, 3 walks, and a wild pitch while striking out 6; Game Score 68. Nick Pivetta (H 4) pitched a scoreless inning before turning the ball over to closer Liam Hendriks (SV 21) who wrapped things up. At the plate, Rafael Devers (3 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI) and Ceddanne Rafaela (2 for 3, Stolen Base) made the victory possible.
While he was tagged with the loss, Nelson Cortes (10-10) had a solid game in that he permitted just 1 earned run on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6 in 6 innings of play; Game Score 61. Jonathan Loaisiga pitched the final 2 innings of scoreless ball. The Yankees limited offense was generated by Anthony Volpe (2 for 4), Oswald Peraza (1 for 3, Walk, Stolen Base), and Aaron Judge (1 for 3, Walk).
