The NBA pays guys 8 figures just to be a body in practices. The $ is only a concern if it prevents you from making moves. True, no one wants to overpay for anybody. But there aren't many guys that has what he has and is available. No one of Holiday's stature is going to Portland in this stage of their career. They are either chasing rings or the highest salary possible. So given supply & demand, I don't think Portland is sweating the price tag.
