The 1st round is over and the Oakland Athletics took the "sure" choice and selected Oregon State infielder Travis Bazzana as the top overall selection. University of Georgia outfielder Charlie Condon moved up from the projection lists, as he was taken 2nd overall by the Kansas City Royals. The Boston Red Sox were able to get their top choice in Wake Forest pitcher Chase Burns with the 12th overall selection.
