The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie starting pitcher Cooper Hjerpe on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a herniated disc during the first inning of his July 17 start against Tampa Bay.
The Rays would win 1-0.
In his two-plus starts since making his major league debut July 5, the left-hander has gone 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA
Hjerpe is expected to miss up to five weeks.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 24-year-old right-hander Jason Savacool.
In 18 starts for the Redbirds this season, Savacool has gone 7-2 with a 3.36 ERA.
