Arrow Game 86: Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins

Despite being behind 2 to 1 after 4 1/2 innings, things were still setting up nicely for a comeback. Instead, the Miami Marlins (46-40) tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and cruised to a 5 to 1 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox (48-38).

Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara (6-5) went the distance, permitting just 1 earned run on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in the complete-game victory; Game Score 74. The offense was powered by Jake Burger (2 for 3, Double, Run, 2 RBI, Walk), Luis Arraez (2 for 3, Run, Walk), and Tim Anderson (1 for 3, Run, 2 Stolen Bases).

For the Red Sox, starter Tanner Houck (9-6) was roughed up for 5 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in just 4 innings of work; Game Score 26. While not an ideal setting, reliever Garrett Cleavinger was terrific in his 4 innings of play, as he permitted just 1 walk while striking out 8. At the plate, Marcelo Mayer (2 for 3, Double, Homerun, Run, RBI) and Masataka Yoshida (2 for 4) played well.

Player of the Game: Sandy Alcantara

AL East Standings: 1st Place, 1 Game Lead
