Cards news: May 25 -- SP Gray and Minnesota's Lewis suspended for fisticuffs
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray has been suspended for six games after hitting the Minnesota Twins' Royce Lewis with pitch during the first inning of a 6-2 loss on May 24.
Gray, who missed the start of the season with an injury, was making just his second start of the season.
In his first outing, on May 18 against Atlanta, he had allowed five runs in five innings of a 7-0 loss.
In this game, he gave a solo homer to Lucas Keaschall to lead-off the game.
Two batters later, Emmanuel Rodrguiez made it 3-0 with a two-run shot.
Lewis paid the price by being hit with the first pitch he saw.
He should have known it was coming, but he charged the mound anyway.
Lewis will have to sit out Minnesota's next two games.
The Twins completed a three-game sweep of St. Louis with their 6-2 victory.
