The first steps we'd always recommend would be to make sure to clear your downloads folder, to make sure the new version isn't getting saved to a new spot.
The next step is probably to double-check where you installed things the first time, and make sure the new version installs on top of that fully. Sometimes it can be easy to forget if you installed it to a custom directory and the link you use to open the game points to the wrong file.
Another option could be to fully un-install the old version, and then install the new one. That could help if there's a permissions thing where the new version doesn't get properly installed.
