William Ritter played in 1 game as a catcher for the 1890 Toledo team. He was a native of Columbus, OH and played semi-pro ball around there for quite some time. Up until very recently his baseball record was thought to be "Floyd Ritter" but SABR research has corrected this. In 1892 he became a fireman and at the time of his death was the Fire Chief for the city of Columbus. This photo comes from the Columbus Public Library showing him early in his fire career.
