The Last Trades, Part 2

March 16th – 8:12
“That is three years of a guy that collected 8+WAR in the last two years, you have to give me something man. The Red Sox are coming up and they have prospects in their pockets I cannot refuse. It’s this deal or no deal. Imagine Bryce Harper AND Jose Bautista in your outfield with Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman and your rotation… you will be unstoppable. All you need is this arm and that guy that is blocked by your franchise player anyways.”

“Look, the fans are livid that we have to trade him away, and he will solidify third base for years for you. All I need I a little bit of help for our major league roster, and a little bit of fringe talent, like Devanski… Oh it’s Devinski, see, I don’t even know his name.”

“Look, I’m only asking for an outfield prospect to have some depth in the minors for the next years. You get two pieces that you can move around your major league roster. Christ, the kid hit 23 home runs last year.”

Sitting with my assistant GM Michelle Wilke in my makeshift office, eating pizza, we worked though the players we got, the players we have… and the players we still have an offer on. But, the trading frenzy was done. Two small last minute deals went through later, negotiated by Andy Maurer separately where we unloaded more stuff for minor 2.5* potential players, but nothing stunning. Now, we have to build a roster… and go for the first year of the Toronto Ban Jays.
