Arrow Game 71: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

A late, 9th inning rally came up just short as the home team fell to their historic rivals. By a 4 to 3 score, the visiting New York Yankees (38-35) topped the Boston Red Sox (38-33).

New York starter Carlos Rodon (8-5) tossed a fine game in which he allowed just 1 earned run on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 12 in 8 innings of work; Game Score 75. Clay Holmes (SV 22) was called into wrap things up in the final inning and while he did ultimately record the save, he was knocked around for 2 earned runs on 4 hits and a walk in 1 inning of play. Austin Wells (2 for 3, Homerun, Run, RBI, Hit-by-Pitch), Jasson Dominguez (2 for 4, Double, Run), and Alex Verdugo (2 for 4, Double, RBI) had a solid day at the plate.

Tanner Houck (8-4) was saddled with the loss after he permitted 4 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 hit batsman while striking out 9 in 7 innings of play; Game Score 50. Justin Slaten covered the final 2 innings without allowing any further scoring. The Boston offense was powered by Vaughn Grissom (3 for 4, Double), Tristan Casas (2 for 4, 2 Runs), and Reese McGuire (2 for 4, RBI).
