Yeah, either way if you do NOT want fictional players in this universe then you need to disable FA creation (IE check the appropriate box).
For historical rookies coming in as they did IRL, check that box and leave the random rookies from all eras box unchecked. This is in SETTINGS>HISTORICAL.
So, you basically have three choices for historical rookies: they go straight to their historical teams; they come in as FA; or they are in the Draft player pool.
If you want them to go straight to their historical teams, disable the Rookie Draft.
If you want them to come in as FA, check that box, again this is in SETTINGS>HISTORICAL.
If you have the Draft enabled and the above FA box unchecked, they come into the draft pool whenever you've set the reveal to happen.
For the purpose of this game, Ichiro is not an IFA. He is just a rookie for 2001 who (I presume, but don't know for certain as I've not encountered him under these circumstances) lands at the Mariners if you have it set up for players to go to their historical teams. If not, he'll be in the Draft pool with all the historical 2001 rookies.
