Right handed catcher Verne Clemons made his debut with the 1916 St. Louis Browns before spending the rest of his major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Browns he had 7 at bats spread over 4 games including 1 start.
Returning to the Majors in 1919 with the Cardinals, Clemons established himself as the starting catcher. He continued in that role through 1921. 1921 was clearly his best season establishing career highs in nearly every batting category including a batting average of .320 and OPS of .776. From 1922 to his final 1924 season he was a back-up catcher.
He appeared in a total of 474 games posting a .286 career batting average. In the field all his appearances were in the catcing position.
