Kazuo Uzuki
A fun little April Fools' joke done by Topps in 2008, where they printed this card claiming this 'Kazuo Uzuki' fellow was a 14 year old superstar of the future with the back of the card reading as follows:
"Already being called 'The Uzi' by some for his 104 MPH fastball, Kaz will be the first Japan-based high-schooler to jump straight to professional baseball in America when he graduates in 2009. 'He is, hands down, the best pitching prospect I've seen in 30 years,' said one MLB scout. And one unnamed American League GM said, 'The contract this kid is going to get will be astronomical.' At age fourteen, he was the youngest player invited to the WBC squad trials and — although he was cut on the last day — he made a lasting impression with his 17 Ks in 7 innings of work during intrasquad matches."
People actually believed this and began selling it all over the internet and desperately trying to acquire it. Even after it was revealed to be a joke, the card is still somewhat of a collector's item because it was kind of rare to get in packs.
So who is the guy in the picture then if Kaz is a made up character? Apparently it was some college kid named Sensen Lin who isn't even much of a baseball fan and got paid to pose for the camera.
