DOHERTY LEADS ALLEGHANY WITH 5 HITS & 4 RBI AT F.C.
GREENHORN 3B PUTS IN BEST PERFORMANCE OF BRIEF CAREER
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (July 4, 1872) – Last-place Alleghany found themselves behind early at Flour City during the team’s Independence Day tilt, but turned matters around quickly during the middle innings to take an eleven-run win:
Eight Alleghany players, including pitcher Elmer Seabold, had multiple hits, and two had at least four: 3B Frank Doherty & CF Joe Thatcher. Of the two, it was Doherty’s batsmanship that earned Player of the Game honors:• T2: Ground Out to 2B
• T4: Single past 2B off L. Vogel
• T5: 1-run Single past 1B off L. Vogel
• T6: 2-run Double to CF off C. Baxter (R)
• T8: Leadoff Single past SS off C. Baxter
• T9: 1-run Single to LF off C. Baxter
• TOTAL: 5/6, 2B, 1 R, 4 RBI The 5/6 day raised the average of greenhorn Doherty to .278 (.638 OPS), and he has 38 RBI through 51 games so far in his debut season. He has been light with the bat, but where Doherty has been outstanding is in the field, where he currently leads all APBL Third Basemen in Fielding % (.932), Defensive Efficiency (1.209), & Zone Rating (+12.7). As a result, Doherty has a WAR of 1.4 on the season even though he has been a below-average batsman.
