Emery Olson

Found a couple of improvements over what I had as an image for this infielder. The key to the search was misspelling his first name as Emory.

Olson was a slick-fielding minor leaguer who was on the St. Louis Browns' spring roster in 1910. They carried him on their roster over into the beginning of the season, but he never showed up to play with them because he had a nervous breakdown. He had made a bonehead play the previous year, and he continued to obsess about it. He just couldn't mentally get ready to get back into the baseball competition. He was placed into a state mental facility for a while. He tried to make a comeback with the San Francisco Seals in 1913, but it was unsuccessful.

The first image is from the Louisville Courier-Journal of March 26, 1908. It shows him with the Louisville Colonels. The drawing is from the Topeka (KS) State Journal of March 18, 1910. I think it shows him with the Topeka White Sox.

Olson had an older brother who also played in the minors at about the same time. His name was Sylvester "Ole" Olson.
