July 1st

Mets, Ruiz Blast Expos, 18-0

New York left fielder Roberto Ruiz was a significant contributor in his team's 18-0 triumph over the Montreal Expos. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 and driving in 4 for the Mets. Josh Eisenberg, who is tied for 5th in the EL in wins with 7, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed no runs on 4 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts. The last-place Expos have lost 4 consecutive games.

With New York leading 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Ruiz came up to bat against Montreal pitcher John Martinez. Ruiz hit a cutter to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 9th home run of the season put the Mets on top, 8-0. He is batting .233-9-28 .744OPS in 47 games.

July 2nd

Expos Earn Clutch Win, 7-6 in Ten

The Montreal Expos beat the New York Mets, 7-6 -- though it took them 10 innings. Montreal center fielder Brian Schill had a pretty good game. He went 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The 26-year old is batting .162-3-8 .524OPS in 22 games. The win has Montreal at 29-47.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Robby Weltzer came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing New York pitcher Ron Millett, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 7-6. Weltzer has hit .270 since coming over via trade last month.

"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Aaron McCreery, the Montreal skipper.

Mets Need Extra Innings to Top Expos, 5-4

Citi Field was the site of a competitive game between the Montreal Expos and New York Mets.

The New York Mets topped the Montreal Expos by a score of 5-4 in 11 innings. Leading the way was right fielder Josh Davis. Davis was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mets. New York reliever Nate Warren picked up the win to move to 2-0. Andy Pelletier suffered the loss.

Batting in the bottom of the 11th, 26-year old first baseman Seb Stuart had a real shot to win the game. Montreal pitcher Andy Pelletier was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Stuart hit a run-scoring single. The Mets had a walk-off triumph. The first baseman is batting .237-11-32 .798OPS in 51 games.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Stuart told the New York Citizen.

The Mets sport a record of 31-45.

Mets Need Extra Innings to Top Expos, 5-4

Despite a fine performance by left fielder Karl Ferguson, the Montreal Expos lost to the New York Mets, 5-4. Ferguson was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The 4th-place Mets hiked their record to 32-45.

Volker Martin
was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home. He Is batting .312-4-20 .860OPS in 29 games.

"I was a little disappointed," said Montreal manager Aaron McCreery. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
