The inaugural NimBLe All-Star Game at Chicago’s Wrigley Field was a tightly contested battle that delivered thrilling moments from start to finish. Both leagues showcased the depth of their talent, with pitchers dominating early before the bats came alive in the middle innings. The Eastern League struck first in the 2nd inning, as Joe Ferguson’s sharp single and aggressive baserunning set the stage for Chris Speier to bring in the game’s opening run. The Western League responded in the 3rd, with Nate Colbert singling and scoring on Dave Concepcion’s clutch groundball to tie the game at 1-1.

Momentum shifted to the Western League in the 4th inning when Bobby Murcer launched a towering solo home run to right field, but the Eastern League fought back with a big inning in the bottom of the 3rd, highlighted by Dusty Baker’s double and Billy Williams’ scorching 2-run double that gave them a 3-1 lead. The game continued to ebb and flow, with the Western League pulling ahead 5-3 in the top of the 7th on an unlikely 2-run home run by pitcher Terry Forster, stunning the crowd and energizing his team.

The Eastern League, however, refused to back down. In the bottom of the 7th, Al Oliver crushed a 2-run home run to tie the game at 5-5, setting the stage for the game’s decisive moment in the 8th inning. After Pete Rose singled to lead off, Ted Simmons blasted a dramatic 2-run home run deep into the Chicago night, giving the Eastern League a 7-5 advantage. The Western League made one final push in the 9th, loading the bases and scoring a run on Billy North’s walk, but Sam McDowell closed the door, striking out Johnny Briggs to secure the victory.

Key performances included Ted Simmons’ game-winning homer, Terry Forster’s shocking offensive contribution, and Bobby Murcer’s steady production at the plate. The pitching staff for both teams delivered under pressure, with standout performances by Gaylord Perry and Rollie Fingers for the Eastern League and Elias Sosa for the Western League. The defensive play of Dave Concepcion and Chris Speier added to the game’s intensity, as both shortstops converted critical outs. The final score, 7-6 in favor of the Eastern League, marked an exciting beginning for Major Sim Baseball’s All-Star tradition, leaving fans eager for what’s to come.

All-Star Nashville Sound's catcher Ted Simmons had a night to remember.

Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 7-6 Eastern League victory over the Western League All-Stars.

"We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Simmons said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled."
