National Hockey League to Expand Playoffs

The time has come for the NHL to expand its playoff field. The reason for this is to give fans in more cities the opportunity to experience postseason play. The NHL commissioner, owners and players have all agreed that this will help garner more interest among fans of teams who are hovering around the .500 mark. The field with increase from 8 to 16 teams. Teams will be seeded #1 through #8 in each conference. To allow for better weather in the Stanley Cup Finals, the beginning of the regular season will now start on March 24.
