Out with the Old, In with the New: KC Martin Now GM of Montreal
stadiumreport.bbn
November 2nd, 2020

When Montreal made wholesale changes in the front office after last season, fans were left wondering in which direction their favorite club would head. The hiring of K.C. Martin simply led to more questions. The 34 year-old has no previous experience in baseball except for playing horrible baseball in high school and comes from a blue collar mathematics/analyst background for Aegis Insurances in Edmonton.

"I'm the new kid on the block. I know that I've got a lot to prove to you," conceded Martin. "When you take over a ballclub, you don't have an offseason. There are signings, trades, meetings, arbitration, drafting the right young players. It's a year-round job. There's a lot of positives here. We're going to try to build on those and field the best team we can. I have done a lot of research on NMLB, and I believe my outside view on things will help this team going forward"

“But,” he conceded, “ it will be a LOT of work to bring this ship on the right course.” Martin may be right about that. The Expos finished with a franchise record 107 losses for 2020 as well as the death of team founder Andy Buchanan at age 78.

Many say that while the father has brought Montreal the World Series ring in 2015, he also took out $619M out of the franchises coffers over the 20 years, so the fans were torn between happiness and hope this summer. His son Rick has taken over the reigns in June, but it remains to be seen if the younger Buchanan will continue to milk the Expos for every dollar possible, or give the new GM some breathing room.

He will need that one if they want to take a route towards the playoffs again as the team has taken a hard nose dive since the last playoff appearance in 2018. With the team locked into five more years of 3B Vince Roman(32, 3,5* OSA, .266/.348./483 30HR 90RBI 4.2WAR)'s contract that will probably get worse over the years and the botched arrival of #5 prospect SP Dan Hilton(21, 2,5/4* OSA; 0-6 6.57 44K 10GS 0.2WAR), who is deemed fragile by many scouts. As is their young ‘ace’ Bill Smith(24, 3.5/4*, 11-13 4.85 213K 2.5WAR).

That being said, the #3 prospect in baseball in shortstop Julian Hernandez(20, 1.5/5* OSA) is also in their hands. Signed as an international amateur free agent for a whooping $7.09M signing bonus, the Venezuelan spend his season in Short A Mill City, hitting .220/.280./292 3HR 12RBI 9SB with stellar defense.. but a cold bat. Apart from him, there is little to be excited about, so the young GM has to rebuild a dumpster fire of a Major League team and a weak farm system while working with a new owner… while being a total outsider. Enjoy the ride!

Well, here we are again. A little walk down the memory lane. The last time I really played OOTP was in early 2018, fairly active here in the forums. Then, a couple of strokes of fate in the close family and the consequences of them got me away from the game. Getting a full time job after finally finishing my studies got me away from watching baseball from Germany, and I never really got back into the game… until I installed OOTP 22 that I bought in a steam sale years ago on my Steam Deck two weeks ago and was glued to it again… so maybe I can get back into writing a fun dynasty?

Anyways, the setup (only things that were changed):
  • 2014 League Totals
  • 26 man Roster
  • Infield Shifts Banned
  • A lot of Scouting Discoveries (64 per year)
  • 3 batter minimum for Relief Pitchers
  • Delayed Injury Diagnosis: never
  • Batter and Pitcher development speed: 1.1
  • Prospect Rankings: Dynamic
  • Minor League: 1x AAA, 1x AA, 1x A, 1x S A, 2x regular R, 1x All-Year Rookie League that starts in April with 140G
  • Trading Reputation System Disabled
