Those "gimmicky" features are to increase immersion and to also help draw in new fans. Do you know how many Steam reviews say this years game just FHM 10? If they added no new features, there would get even less people buying the new version. The game doesn't sell high volumes as is due to be a niche product. It doesn't really need help.

HLM now has more players than FHM and they don’t add those gimmicky features. They also fix reported bugs extremely quickly.
Have you tried both and compared the two? If FHM doesn’t fix what the playerbase has been complaining about for years, they’re going to continue losing players to the competition which is now a viable alternative
