Cards news: July 7 -- Deal sends Yaz and minor league to Houston for RP Guisti and OF McBride
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Houston Astros have completed a four-player deal which would send 1B/OF Carl Yastrzemski and minor-league catcher Gary Alexander to the Houston Astros in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Dave Guisti and minor-league outfielder Bake McBride.
Yastrzemski, 35, has struggled in recent weeks after a solid start which has led to a cutback in his playing time.
Something he has vocally unhappy about.
In 73 games, 62 starts, Yaz has hit .251 with three home runs and 25 RBIs.
The Cardinals acquired Guisti to bolster a struggled right-side of the bullpen.
The 35-year hold has pitched in 25 games this season, going 3-0 with 15 saves and a 1.97 ERA.
Alexander, 22, has spent the entire season at AAA Grand Rapids where he has hit .250 with 12 home runs and 47 RBIs in 70 games/70 starts.
The 26-year-old McBride has spent the season at AAA Spokane where he has hit .322 with nine home runs and 62 RBIs.
McBride will be assigned to AAA Grand Rapids.
