Troy Finishes Job In Walk Off Fashion
Final At bats In Three Games Difference In Series
Everyone enjoys a walk off win, but when it comes in a World Series it seems to be all the more fantastic. The favored Troy Trojans walked off three different games in this series including the series clincher to become champions of baseball once again.
With the series tied at one, Jim Snyder hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to score the winning run in game three. In game five Roger Connor singled in the winning run in the 10th scoring Tom Foley who had doubled to lead off the frame. The most dramatic comeback came in game five when the Trojans won it all. The home team was down two runs heading into the 9th when they started a rally and Elmer White hit a game tying double and it was William Bestick who would later score white on a sacrifice fly that would sent Haymaker Ground into a frenzy as the winning run scored.
"As the games were in the balance late, our belief in each other is what came through. I am so proud of the boys." said manager Lip Pike who wins his second championship.
The Most Valuable player of the series could have been any number of players but the honor goes to Jimmy Wood who drove in five runs and became the first player to win the award twice.
Troy are worthy champions and arguments can be made that this franchise has been the most successful the game has ever seen.
