Giants Race To Championship
New York Sweeps Bucs In No Contest
Game 1 - The Giants jump all over Pirate starter Bob Moose for six runs in the first four innings to set the tone for the series. Pittsburgh does fight back to make it a game but Rosy Ryan closes out the ninth. George Kelly drives in four and Ross Youngs scores 4 runs off 4 hits.
Game 2 - A much closer game as Jack Bentley held a slight lead over Bob Veale and the home team after a Frankie Frisch RBI single in the 5th. The Giants extended their lead in the ninth before Bentley closed it out despite a late home run by Carl Taylor. Hank Gowdy goes 4-4 and after this game it felt there was no way the Pirates could survive and bring the series back to Pittsburgh.
Game 3 - The hammer came out for the Giants at the Polo Grounds as their offense swelled including an 8 run sixth inning that put the game away. Art Nehf sailed along for the complete game win while Hack Wilson hit a three run home run and Jim Bunning had nothing in a crucial start foe the Pirates. Wilson had 4 home runs and 12 RBI in the post season.
Game 4 - Game 4 was a formality as the Giant fans celebrated a title for season four with an easy 7-1 clinching win. Virgil Barnes pitched well in the win while Frankie Frisch had four hits and a home run to earn MVP honors and Travis Jackson added a two run single. It was a culmination for the Giants who sweated out an ALCS win only to have it their way completely in the World Series.
