Washington’s Bill Hawke Stuns St. Louis with 4-0 Shutout
In an impressive display of pitching mastery, Washington hurler Bill Hawke led his team to a commanding 4-0 victory over the St. Louis Sox. Hawke’s strategic mix of fastballs and changeups kept the St. Louis lineup off-balance throughout the game. He allowed only 6 hits, struck out 5 batters, and issued no walks, earning the well-deserved win.
“I think every time we were looking for a fastball, he threw a changeup and every time we were looking for a changeup, he threw a fastball,” St. Louis manager Frank Pearce said in frustration after the game.
Hawke’s performance has been a bright spot in an otherwise mixed season for him. To date, he has compiled a 10-16 record with a 3.85 ERA.
