Fred Dunlap Extends Hitting Streak to 20 Games in Rebels' Victory
Fred Dunlap's hitting streak is making waves in Boston as the 37-year-old first baseman extended it to 20 games during the Boston Rebels' 7-2 victory over the Columbus Bandits. Dunlap went 1-for-4 in the contest, with his lone hit coming in the 8th inning.
“People are starting to bring it up to me when I’m around town,” Dunlap admitted after the game. “It’s getting stressful.” In addition to his single, he grounded out in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th innings, and walked in the 5th.
This season, Dunlap is enjoying a standout performance, batting .392 with 189 hits, 5 home runs, 78 runs scored, and 94 RBIs, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top hitters.
Larry McKeon Shuts Down St. Louis Sox in 5-0 Victory
Milwaukee hurler Larry McKeon delivered a masterful performance against the St. Louis Sox, tossing a 4-hit shutout in a 5-0 win. McKeon kept St. Louis batters off balance throughout the game, striking out three and walking one.
“He just worked us over,” said St. Louis manager Thomas Griffin. “He probably didn’t even need a shower after the game — he barely worked up a sweat.”
With this victory, McKeon improves his record to 13-12. In 170.2 innings this season, he has accumulated 40 strikeouts but has also issued 98 walks, resulting in a 5.75 ERA.
