Nope, Sketchup 2017 still works fine and I still use it. As for alternatives.... Even though Blender may have more advanced functions or built-in tools, I don't feel like investing a ton of time to learn it.
The easiest is to just get Sketchup 2017 back. Mytreds has it in his post here:
