I could write a short book on what they've done to tilt the playing field since PT22, but Combinators are only the culmination of a trend on one particular facet of PT. First, they killed the 10-5-3 reward 32-team quick tournaments and forced everyone into 16-team quicks with lower-than-previous rewards (3-1, used to be 5-3). Then, they restricted the number of quicks we can enter. Now, they've reintroduced 32-team quicks for live cards with lower-than-previous rewards (6-4-2). They take longer to fill (because of the lower number of allowed quick entries) and are worth less to boot.
I consistently finish high enough to get into PTCS, but PTCS means Combinators and a first-round exit for anyone who got there solely through live dailies and weeklies. That means the only rewards I'm getting have already been gotten through the dailies and weeklies, so it's really not worth the time spent on assembling a roster.
Also...many of the best missions require tournament reward cards. The only path I can see to Perfect card tournament rewards involves Combinators. The best we can do in non-Combi tournaments is high Diamond.
It's not so much aggravating as boring. I'm creating a new team each month, each team gets better faster than the previous one, and each has or will run into a wall at Gold or Diamond. They'll probably get rid of Combis next year, but I have no faith that things will get better in 26 and probably won't play.
