April 7-8, 2038: vs Baltimore (2)

And through 4 games of the new season the Rays look like a juggernaut, taking both from Baltimore. We'll see how it goes once they hit the road.

While they have won all four they've played, game #3 was the toughest as they had to come back with 3 runs in the 8th to get by Baltimore 4-2. The winning blow was Danny Charlton's first homer of the year, a 2-run shot, and it was followed later in the inning by Danny Rivera's 2nd solo homer of the game and third in as many games as a Ray. Jamie Arnold picked up the win in his first appearance and Tony Alicea notched his first save of the year after Gabe Bryant gave them a good start at 6 6 2 2 3 4.

The Rays were firing on all cylinders in the second game, overpowering the Orioles 11-0 behind a complete-game, 5-hit shutout from Leo Gutierrez. The young lefty, touted in the preseason predicitions as one of the league's top pitchers, backed up that prognostication by going 9 5 0 0 1 5 and extended to 117 pitches. Needless to say there was plenty of offense, led by Tony Fisher, who was 4-5 with 3 RBI including a 2-run single, and Billy Doughty, 2-3 with a pair of doubles including one which cleared the bases. Not to be overlooked was Agustin Lopez, 4-5 with a pair of doubles as he continues to be death to lefties, and Danny Arroyave, who hit the game's only homer (a solo shot that made it 11-0, his 1st of the year).

Team record: 4-0. They'll look to continue the hot start at home with 3 against San Antonio before they finally embark on the road.
