With 7 teams per division it is not possible to have all teams playing only division games at the same time. So let me know what you think about these options.
One option is to have one team at a time not playing during division play while the other 6 teams match up among each other. That would add two weeks to the season duration besides the quirk of one team in each division being off during division play.
Another option is to have the left out team from a division play its matchups against the left out team from the other division during that time. The season duration would not be extended in that case since no teams are ever off for a week, though as noted further below there may still be need to add length.
Those interdivision games during otherwise division play would need to be one team hosting Thu/Fri and the team hosting Sat/Sun. Those interdivision games would also mean taking care of two of the interdivision opponents outside of the other interdivision play. Instead of playing all seven to start each half it would mean playing only five opponents in those stretches.
Whether it was five or seven opponents in those interdivision stretches, how should those games be distributed? I assume the Thu-Sun should be 2-game series against two opponents. Having an odd number (either five or seven) of such opponents means one extra 2-game series that cannot be paired up. Each half could start with a single Sat/Sun 2-game series, though that would mean the season duration needs to be a week longer.
