Elmer Smith’s Season Ends Due to Elbow Injury
St. Louis Roughnecks pitcher Elmer Smith's season came to an unfortunate end today after he suffered an elbow injury during the team's loss to the Boston Bears. The Roughnecks announced that Smith has been diagnosed with bone chips in his elbow and will be sidelined for at least three months, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
Smith had a challenging year on the mound, posting a 9-12 record in 23 starts with a 4.64 ERA. However, he also contributed as a pinch hitter in 40 games, recording a solid .286 batting average with 3 home runs, 17 runs scored, and 13 RBIs.
Smith’s versatility and presence will be missed by the Roughnecks as they look to finish the season strong without one of their key players.
