In a tough blow for the Chicago Cardinals, star catcher Hugh Duffy suffered a strained posterior cruciate ligament while running the bases in today’s game. Duffy, a key figure for the Cardinals both at the plate and behind it, is expected to miss 4-5 weeks, according to team doctors.

The news comes as a disappointment for Chicago fans and the team alike, as Duffy has been a steady contributor throughout the season. Currently batting .279 with 4 home runs and 44 RBIs, his absence will create a void in both the Cardinals' lineup and defense.

After hearing the diagnosis, Cardinals manager acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in the rest of the team to step up during Duffy’s recovery. “You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow,” he told reporters after the game. The manager emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, even with one of their stars temporarily out of action.
