Rebels Acquire Veteran Catcher Keenan from Royals

In a move that has both teams recalibrating their rosters, the Boston Rebels announced today the acquisition of 34-year-old catcher Jim Keenan from the Cleveland Royals in exchange for 24-year-old minor league left fielder Fred Hartman.
“This isn’t the deal of the century,” a Rebels spokesperson conceded, “but we think it will improve the direction of both teams.”
Keenan has been hitting .256 this season with 20 hits in 78 at-bats, and has a .363 on-base percentage. His totals include 4 RBIs and 17 runs scored. The veteran catcher brings experience to the Rebels’ lineup, while Hartman’s departure offers the Royals a chance to develop young talent.
Inks Shuts Out Barons in 2-0 Victory
Bert Inks of the Cleveland Royals turned in an impressive performance today, shutting out the Baltimore Barons 2-0 at Cleveland Grounds. Inks allowed 8 hits but maintained his composure, striking out 2 batters to secure the win.
“The shutout is nice, but I’m just happy we won,” Inks said with a smile after the game. “Coach can be a real bear when we lose.”
Inks’ season record now stands at 10-11 with a 3.28 ERA. Over 172.2 innings, he has accumulated 63 strikeouts, demonstrating his consistent ability to keep opponents at bay.
