There are a lot of really weird coincidences like this in baseball.
The wildest one, of course, is Lou Gehrig dying of Lou Gehrig's disease. Think about how rare that disease is and, of all people, Lou Gehrig contracting it.
Another crazy one is Tommy John getting injured and needing Tommy John surgery.
You literally cannot make this up. If it was in a movie, nobody would believe it. Truth is stranger than fiction!
