The NCBBL (alternately called the "National Colored League" or the "League of Colored Baseball Clubs") was perhaps the first attempt to form a nationwide league for black baseball. Washington and Cincinnati were originally slated to host teams but failed to post the required bond, so this ended up being a six-team league.
