But we all have our bias and predilections. I can't stand "Expos" or "Astros" as team names. A defunct, money-losing fair and a dated reference to space travel now taking place in Texas and Florida? The transplanted Rays are the Montreal Mounties. And, with a nod to history, Houston is the Colts - without the gun reference.

Houston should have been Buffaloes (long-time Texas League team), Colts, or something connected to Texas and the Lone Star state.
Team nicknames should be taken from the town history and culture. Just a good nicknames is fine, too, that doesn't have to be connected to the town.
It would be good to be connected to baseball, but doesn't have to be. Just a good name would be fine like Cowboys, Broncos, Buckaroos, Chiefs, Tomahawks.
To often today, teams pick silly names just to sell caps, jerseys and cheap teeshirts. New Orleans Baby Cakes is one of the most ridiculous names of all time. The people in New Orleans hated it. The team was gone a year later, gone to become the Wichita Wind Surge, which is not a very good nickname. I spoke with the GM complaining about Baby Cakes and he said it would make them more money. He didn't care if the fans didn't like it.
Sorry to be so traditional, but I want baseball teams to be traditional and related to the town in some way or be associated with baseball elements in some way: Yankees, Red Sox, Brewers, Braves, Tigers, Bears, Sluggers, Blue Sox, Cardinals, Redbirds, Hot Shots, Giants, Dragons, Cyclones, Bulls, Tornadoes, Wolves, etc.
Montgomery Biscuits, Rocket City Trash Pandas, Wichita Wind Surge, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Omaha Storm Chasers, Biloxi Shuckers and Fort Myers Mighty Mussels are not good names of a baseball team.
What does a baseball player have in common with a Biscuits, Jumbo Shrimp, Storm Chasers, Wind Surge, an oyster shucker or a Mussel or a clam?
What in the world is a Trash Panda?
