I GM and manage generally, as I like to see how my strategies might work in a modern game. I am very much a Whiteyball-type, strong rotation and defense combined with an aggressive speed-based game.
I have occasionally gone GM only and run long careers, but have generally shied away from that in recent years (have been playing since OOTP 5), and the few times I have done manage-only, I have been frustrated with the GM's awful moves (traded away my best outfielder for a couple DH types and farmed my defensive replacement when I was in a pennant race, which caused my pitching to go to hell).
