Does it really matter in game play?
OF-in is a more extreme way of positioning the OF to try to make sure a run doesn't score, and is closer to the IF than shallow.

Think of a runner on 3b, bottom of the ninth in a tie game with less than two outs. The player on third is a decent baserunner and is scoring on almost any fly ball of medium depth no matter what. So you give up anything over your head and hope if there is a fly ball it is short, your OF has a play, and the runner on third has no chance of tagging and scoring.

Pretty similar to IF in as you're pretty much selling out and hoping the ball is hit at one of your fielders.

Never figured that out"
