Excerpt from Mitt Slingers Magazine January 1907...The proposed world title contest between Sam Langford and NABF champion Luther McCarty is on hold due to McCarty's demands of a $25,000 guarantee and an equal share of the gate as well as a share of profits from any film of the fight...McCarty and his manager Billy McCarney also demanded the fight be held in Los Angeles or San Francisco and even wanted final say in the choice of referee...Langford has been willing to negotiate but told the press boys in Boston that "...McCarty sounds like he doesn't really want this fight..."
