Simmons Carries Athletics
Philadelphia Defeats Milwaukee In Four Games
Al Simmons continues to grow his case for league MVP as his 11 RBI helped carry the 1928 Philadelphia Athletics to the pennant defeating the 2005 Milwaukee Brewers in six games.
Milwaukee took the opening game but Jack Quinn quickly righted the ship winning game two 2-1. In a similar spot, Lefty Grove pitched a shutout in game four to again tie the series. Simmons hit a three run home run in game five and two home runs in game six as the Athletics were determined to move on.
The Brewers likely deserved better but the margin of error in the post season is indeed miniscule.
