Yeah one look at real injured lists, in almost any sport, is an eye opener.
I play out every game so only get in two and sometimes three seasons per version and then import into the next version. So long term affects for me are spread out between the yearly updates and whatever ways they tweak the game.
Having said that some players that have carried forward during the imports have fragile and wrecked injury descriptors. I find those players to be a mixed bag on if\when they get injured again and how much time they miss. Some get hit three, four, or more times a year. Others go two or three seasons without anything more than a day to day. If it is a problem I don't see it.
What I love about realistic injury is the way it forces you to build depth in your organization. Decide whether to call up the young developing star in a season you planned on keeping him at AAA or go with a filler player to get you through. Sign a FA or two to stock the AAA team if I don't think I have the depth I need for the upcoming season. etc. etc.
