Tylor Megill pitches 7 excellent innings, Tyrone Taylor saves a home run, Tyson Lindor powers a homer, and the Mets lead 2-0 going to the 8th in Game 1.
Of course, the bullpen promptly blows it, giving the Metsies an MLB-worst 7 blown saves in May, Harrison Bader can't bring in the winning run from 3B with one out and a 3-0 count in the bottom of the 9th, and the Mets collapse in the 10th. Loss #1 gives the team a May record of 3-6 when leading after 7 innings.
Carlos Mendoza Line somehow holds a presser between games (er, Carlos? Isn't there another game you need to prepare for?) and talks about his decision to bypass Edlose Diaz in favor of Adam 0ttavin0 to close. Somehow, Mendoza Line fails to note that 0ttavin0 now has a 6.75 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in his last 10 outings and might not be the best option either, Diaz or no Diaz.
Mets get shut out on 3 hits in the Twi-Night cap, accumulating a grand total of 7 safeties in 19 innings on the day. (Fabulous Freddie Freeman had 5 hits all by himself.)
Jeff McNeil, who looked to be rounding into form on the road trip, is now 2-for-17 on the homestand and popping up pretty much every time. GKR suggest it might be due to how the 32-year-old Squirrel has to play every single inning of every game because David "Wild Turkey" Stearns is apparently too drunk to notice that we don't have a reserve middle infielder on the roster, and McNeil is thus getting ground down. In MAY. Way to go, GM!
Mets have now lost 8 of 9, and are 10-24 after their 12-8 start. if they continue to play at the recent .294 pace, they will finish 55-107 on the season. With the highest payroll in MLB.
FFS.
